Type: Research Report
Topic: Environment/Climate
Country: Mexico
Climate change has and will continue to impact Mexican forest resources. Alterations in temperature and precipitation, as well as natural disasters, foster a higher rate of habitat loss and contributes to the extinction of species. The pressure on the forests of Mexico is reflected in rates of deforestation and degradation. The process of forest transformation extends to most developing countries and serves to exacerbate the problem of climate change. It is estimated that changes in forestry is responsible for nearly 20% of total greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions globally.
