Renewable Energy Test Station (RETS)
|Mission||Contribute towards quality development and sustainable utility of renewable energy sector by providing quality testing and related services.|
|Organization Type||Government (National or Local)|
|Other Organization Type||Renewable Energy Test Station (RETS) is an autonomous body governed by “RENEWABLE ENERGY TEST STATION RULES 2063†framed under clause 31 of Nepal Academy of Science and Technology (NAST) Act 2048, Nepal Academy of Science and Technology is under Ministry of Science and Technology .|
|Organizational Expertise||Lab or Field Testing|
|Expertise||RETS/NAST assures the quality for all renewable energy products and components and is government body to test and certify for renewable energy systems and components . The major expertise areas include:
Assisting  manufacturers of RE systems and components for development of quality products and their capacity enhancement.
Conducting operational research and development (R&D) activities to support renewable energy systems and components.
Consultancy services in RE sector.
Perform measurements and quality control of RE components and systems.
Assisting the  Renewable Energy Support Programs /Agencies with technical services, standards development etc.
|Technologies and Fuels||Biogas, Biomass (Ag. Residue, Processed Biomass, etc.), Charcoal, Pellets / Briquettes, Solar|
|Clean Cooking Activities||With support from GIZ, RETS has successfully established a biomass laboratory for 2 years, organized trainings in coordination with EPA, AEPC, Aprovecho Research Centre etc.
Now fully focused towards quality testing for cooking stoves with sophisticated emission / efficiency measurement equipments.
12 years of experience in quality testing for Solar PV, battery, lamp, charge controller, Biogas components.
Recently initiated for Solar thermal component testing (solar dryer, solar cooker, Solar water heater etc).
National protocol development for ICS in cooperation with National Organizations.
|Partnership||In January 2013, Rt. Honorable Prime Minister of Nepal has made an ambitious announcement to achieve “Clean Cooking Solutions for All by 2017 (CCS 2017)â€, with aims to cover around 3.3 million households, thereby ensuring indoor air pollution free Nepal. Implementation of this initiative will be made through AEPC. Clean cooking solutions covered under NRREP include ICS, biogas and solar cookers, though with much lower targets; however, ICS is going to be the most predominant and the most suitable technology among all available clean cooking options in the context of CCS 2017.
Being a national organization for quality testing for renewable Energy Products and components, our organization would play a crucial role to control quality of ICS by testing on national standard level and to help donor, NGOs, and INGOs to disseminate quality products.
