Shamba Chef is an innovative television and radio series on cooking and nutrition that is changing the way people cook in Kenya.  In each episode audiences are introduced to a real family in Kenya and invited to watch as the family learns how to prepare more nutritious meals and tries out a new stove and/or fuel that makes cooking “quicker, safer, cleaner, and at half the cost”.  The TV series airs weekly Citizen, Kenya’s most popular TV station, in both English and Swahili.  Each episode is adapted for a weekly radio series, and audiences can subscribe to a free interactive mobile app called iChef for to access more information, including nutritious recipes and ongoing advice on cooking. 

Shamba Chef is produced by the Mediae Company, an award-winning producer of entertaining and educational media that promote changes in knowledge, attitudes and practices amongst East African audiences.  Mediae produces a number of other popular shows in Kenya, including East Africa’s leading agricultural TV program, Shamba Shape Up, which is now in its 7th season and reaches up to 3 million viewers weekly. Features on clean cooking will be featured on 10 episodes of Shamba Shape Up

13 episodes of Shamba Chef and 10 episodes of Shamba Shape Up feature segments on clean cookstoves, with an estimated reach of up to 5 million households weekly.
Shamba Chef episodes are adapted for radio, airing weekly on one of Kenya's leading national radio stations.
iChef, an interactive mobile platform, provides users with information and advice on clean cookstoves. Users can use iChef to call a trained representative to receive additional information.
Leaflets with information on each episode's featured clean cookstove are sent to audience members upon request.
